AIM AND YOUR JOB SEARCH STRATEGIES
Developing AIM (Attitude, Initiative, Motivation) in your heart and mind is essential prior to your putting a job search plan together. Without the right Attitude, you will not create that `Confident' . . . `Exciting' . . .and `Positive' first Impression when you meet a prospective employer.
Without Initiative, you will have trouble getting started unless you find a way to `Jump-Start' your job search. Initiative means "to do something, take action or `step out and take a chance." Without it, nothing is going to happen.
Finally, without Motivation, you lack hope . . . inspiration . . . and purpose. You cannot motivate other people, motivation comes from within. You, and only you, are in charge of your AIM . . . and you are responsible for your Motivation.
Let me suggest a few ways that AIM can effect your job search:
Networking: With AIM, you should develop your personal networking card with your name, `brand' name, phone number, email address and LinkedIn Profile (if you have one). If not, I suggest you go to LinkedIn.com and develop your own FREE profile and use it as part of your networking strategy.
Resume and Cover Letter: Take AIM with an entirely new approach in developing your resume. "It isn't what you want to write that's important, it's what the hiring manager wants to read." You only have 20 seconds to impress H.R. or the hiring manager when reading your resume. This amounts to reading 1/2 of the first page of your resume. If you haven't sold them by then, it is going to be a hard sell. See our `Powerful Resume Presentation' on our Home page.
Your Job Search Plan: You must develop a viable job search plan. "If you don't know where you are going, how will you know when you get there?" Remember what we said about AIM earlier? Until you establish AIM in your heart and mind, don't even begin to put a job search plan together. An effective job search plan will become your compass.
Interviewing: There are 2 key ingredients of getting ready for the interview: Preparation and Control. The culmination of all of your hard work in your job search ultimately will lead to getting an interview. First, you must prepare for the interview by reviewing the 50 plus interview questions you may be asked. We suggest you write down your own responses to those 50 - 100 questions you may be asked and review them over and over until the responses come readily to you. By doing this, you will not only control the interview but you will sleep well the night before your interview.
Profile: Your own `Personal Profile' is available with the job search manual and workbook. This 7 page profile highlights your strengths, value to an organization, communications style, opportunity areas for development, goals and emotions. It is a tremendous resource when you are matching your skills, values and personality to the position you may be seeking. Much of the information contained in your `Personal Profile' will help you format and present your resume in a manner that will address the two major challenges you will face . . . namely: 1) Will you add value to our organization? and 2) How well will you fit into our corporate culture?
Managing Your Time: You will take a time mangement quiz to determine areas that you need to address. You will identify `time wasters' in your job search. You will explore strategies that will allow you to make better use of your time. Finally, you will learn how to develop your own Time Management Action Plan that you will be able to adapt to any problem or opportunity area you will face in your job search activities.
Partnering and Support: You will no longer feel like you are "all in this alone". It is a lonely feeling when you are trying to put a job search plan together. We will provide all of the support, direction and encouragement that we possibly can. We will provide Synergism in your job search where the `total effect is greater than the sum of its parts' . We will be sending you periodic updates and information about new strategies . . . new ideas . . . and suggestions that you will receive on a periodic basis.
This is what AIM in your job search plan is all about. IT'S ABOUT YOU!
